Default New CBR 1000f owner

Just became a member after watching from the side lines for several weeks and found it very intresting,
ive just bought a broken CBR 1000f k the prvious owner had a 40 mph side impact and had put it in his garage for storage, intending to restore it when he had time.
five years later he happened to mention to me that he had this little gem.
so guess what i can join the forum now that i own one
so hello you all seem to be frendly and helpfull, and so i look forward to many months of fun getting this monster back and running,
she sustained masive damage to the fronf faring so its going to be fun finding plastic, as i said shes been in his garage for the past five years and never been attended to in this time so she is covered in heavy grime.
the battery has had it, tyers the rubber is heavily cracking, fork seal leaking and the coolant in the rad has all crystalised. am looking forward to getting the engine running.
previous owner said that she was his pride and joy befor impact so there is no reason that there is any problems with engine.
ive gone on a bit but just wanted to say hello and give some background before starting to post on the forum. off now to get a new battery

Cheers MarkR
its a 1989 model F
just got in from work and sprayed some teflon oil in the pots and turned the back wheel again in second just to run the pistons up and down. suprisingly easy, thought id have more trouble.
left the plugs out and conected the battery leads upto the car via jump leads.
turned the ignition on and the oil light came on ? doh its still in second. clicked it down the green neutral light came on. made sure it was set to run on kill switch. pressed the stater button. very quiet pressed it quite a few times, then some clicking from the stater solinoid kept going getting better then the pistons stated whiring and great plums of spray fron the pots WD and teflon stuff ! sounded great kept this up for several second, me thinks this is going good.cleaned the mess it sprayed all over.should have covered up but you know to exited.
Checked the plugs gaps etc and gave them a little clean then put them back in. put small funel in the fuel suply and pored quite a bit of petrol down it , looked like the carbs were leakinghooked the jump leads back up and no choke pushed the button this time the solinoid clicked nicely and the stater motor stated it was all moving didnt fier up though.
kept up with the button and it began to spark into life then i gave 3/4 choke and bing shes running big pulmb of black Sh*t out the two exhaust ! should have expected that she ran sweet although there was a loud sucking noise on closeer inspection one of the carb breather rubber caps was missing (i think it was the sctoiler although its missing from the kit) then she stopped ? ah stupid you need to keep filling the petrol into the funnel. filled up again and re started sweet again, just let it run 1/4 choke for several mins kept topping up this time.
music thought i bought a real problem but with the engin running this smooth this easily i am confident the engin is as the old owner said a good project. with this in mind i can now look for the expensive plastics and spend time doing the rest.
:- forks
:- flush the oil
:- flush the cooling system
and a good clean.
long way to go now

hope fully get battery monday pain conecting to the car just to start.

ive taken the rad cap of and its all crusty
now ive filled it up to the top and its all greeny so i think its coolant.
ive started her up and left the cap off. whilst on tick over i can see vibration movement.
ive over filled it so that the floating bits can over flow.
am i right innthis asumption
if i blip the throtal and the water level goes down and then returns to its previous level , that tells me the water pump is working ?
but if it remains as it was just vibration waves but a bit bigger then the pumps had it?

ive bliped it several times and the level goes down and then returns each time i blip.

your sugestions or advice is most welcome

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have a promising project on your hands. When you said that the bike had major side impact damage, does this mean that the frame was hit, or was the damage superficiaal? Hope that you can post some pics soon.
