RE: New CBR 1000F owner
Took possession of the bike Saturday. Rode it home. Then on Sunday took it up into the mountains for an extended ride. Wow.
I know you guys know this, but this bike rocks. I have never owned a Honda let alone this model. The last Japanese bike I owned was an '84 GPZ750 Turbo. The CBR1000F feels similar to the kawasaki in that has that UJM w/ a real fairing feel which makes me happy to have picked up where I left off so to speak. But in many ways this bike feels better, more stable, better braking, better low end acceleration and a well rounded power band. There's more oomph in the CBR through all the gears and it pulls from the lower end much better than previous owned bikes. It is Smooth, quiet, comfortable, easy to ride, I am absolutely enamored by this bike. Why wasn't it a big seller?? Though 16 years old, it is remarkebly engineered and still respectable in the sport bike class. My example is in perfect shape. It has 11, 683 miles (not 15K as earlier reported), from original owner, a 1990 purchased at discount in 1992 brand new. The owner said they couldn't get rid of these bikes and so deals were made and bikes sat on showroom floors longer than intended? Sad really that the market has become so polarized that a well rounded bike such as this finds little appreciation. Well good for me that's all I can say.
After closer inspection I will need new tires soon (front and rear) and I think I would prefer a hair taller windscreen (but not critical). The white rims are nice, I think I will keep.

Good grief - a discussion on wheel colours? You guys need to get a life! No, seriously, I have a red/black FL that used to have white wheels. They were impossible to keep clean. Now, I'm not **** about washing the thing, but they always looked bad. I couldn't decide what colour to have them powder coated and was discussing it with the powder coating shop. They made a good suggestion - buy some cheap brush-on paint in the colours you are considering and then just paint the wheels with a brush to see how the colour looks. It doesn't matter how many coats or how bad the finish is because it all gets blasted off anyway. I finally settled on black and think it makes the bike look mean and moody (now who needs to get a life!)

I agree, black wheels look better on your bike. I never did like the white wheels on the red/black model. However, on the silver/grey model, I think that the white looks great. I have received many compliments on the (white) wheels on my 90 (silver/grey) 1000F, so aparently I'm not alone. I also agree that white wheels are a real pain to keep clean! [sm=sigh.gif]

I'm a big fan of my white wheels on my grey CBR--I just started riding it, too, so I'm sure they'll be dirty often and every speck will show. I'm used to chrome wheels (on my old CB550 and my R90/6 BMW), so white is a change, but I agree--with the grey, it's a good combo. Enjoy!
