Default My bike wont hold a charge...NEED HELP

i have a 1987 Hurricane 1000. the only way to start the bike is by jump starting it. once its on she stays on as long as i dont let her idle to low and let it warm up for a minute. when i turn the key in the ignition all of the lights remain dim. when i push the start button without any cables on the battery the bike clicks and then just dies, the ligthts turn off and nothing works. when i jump start it the engine pushes for a sec and then runs with no problem. so the problem is starting the bike wiithout having to ask for a jump everywhere u go. if anyone has any suggestions and can help id appreciate it. thanks

Charge your battery, or get a new one.

Battery or maybe the coil isn't charging the battery while it's running. Good luck either way.

Get the battery tested. It'll tell you whether or not the battery will hold a charge.

Most motorcycle batteries are shipped dry then you add the acid and water. Check to see if your battery has service caps on top and then check the fluid level. Once you have filled your battery with a proper mixture of acid and water place on a battery tender or equivalent "trickle" charger and slowly charge till complete. If you are still having problems than your battery may have gotten too sulfated to hold a charge are you have a dead cell, either way you will want to replace the battery. If problems persist take the bike to a trusted shop to have the stator inpected. Truthfully the battery is only used to start the bike after that the stator will recharge the battery and run the system but if the stator is not charging correctly than the battery will not recharge between starts and the bike will run the electrical system of the battery draining it very quickly.

Get your hands on a volt meter and stick it on the battery. At Idle it should be around 12.5 volts, Then rev the bike up to about 5 grand, it the voltage goes up to 14.5-15 volts then it is your regulator/rectifier or stator. If the Voltage goes up then it is simply a battery.

Check your rectifier as well, same **** happened to me, the freaking technician forgot to hook my rectifier back up, and my bike "stopped" right on a main highway, so yeah...try a battery, but I can almost say 100% that you need a new rectifier.
