Default Motor Access

Okay today at work I came up with a great idea, I think anyway. As you all of you that own a CBR 1000 know we have to undo two bolts at the top of the fuel ttank lift our tank to get to the top of the motor right, okay and we need to use a socket to do so. Now who has dropped the socket on their tank in doing so. SO why not get two 6 mm Bolts with a wing nut on top ( Chrome of course ) and instead of using a socket spanner we simply just undo the wing nut with our hands surely this would e better. So let me know what you think and when I do it to mine I will post the pictures as I am sure it wont look out of place and would be a lot quicker.

If it means that much to you, what about using those quick release bolt clamps like push bikes use to hold a seat on?

Might be able to find something strong and plastic to do the trick in a marine shop.

Or wrap the outside of you sockets and rachet extensions in masking tape?

Or mod a stick on tank-crotch scratch protecor and fit it to the likely drop zone for stray socket or bolts?

I reckon there are plenty of other parts of the bike that chrome $'s could be better spent on.

Just remember to keep the original parts in a safe place so if you ever want to go back, you can

I like these sorts of posts, it's good to rave on about stuff that doesn't really matter... yay for opinions!

Why don't you just lay a couple of towels over the tank before you go to work? I always cover any paint around the area I am going to be working just to be safe. I have scratched too many of my cars and bikes by not covering things so I have just made it a habbit.

True good point my problem is I want to make things better than what they are I know it maybe just as easy to do the many sugestions that have been given all very sensible ideas I might add, maybe I am too lasy in getting the right socket out, I dont know it just seemed to make sense to me. Thats the great thing about this forum we can all have our say and no one will be offeneded or abused we need more of this in our lives to speak up and be counted.

It also helps with the post count!!! I've got 4 stars now... so proud... until I look back at how random some of my posts are

I undid my tank bolts last night and found that the spark plug leads hadn't been plugged on all the way and weren't even on straight. Respect for shop... slipping. Maybe the tank pushes moves them? I'll only find out next time I lift the tank.

I have no problem with those two bolts. But I do have a problem with those top hat-shaped washers under the bolts, that slip out of the rubber bushing and fall into the depths of the engine fairing.

I agree, maybe a tap with the welder or a bit of glug may not go astray
