More R/R stuff

More R/R stuff
With all the R/R topics I decided to do a little research myself. I looked at my R/R today and could see a number on it. When I checked on the Internet, it seams that the Honda number is SH261-12 as printed on the unit. I can search on that number and came up with a replacement number that is 31600-MA6-601 and also 31600MS2601. I have a 1994 model and as far as I can tell that part will work on 1990-2000 years. I also found a web site that lists some other bikes that use that R/R. This will help in locating the part at the best price. For the 1990-200 R/R, look at the 13th entry on this site below.

Now for the 1987-1988 (1999 was not in the states, so it is not listed), I have not come up with a Honda part number. I would need help here. It looks like either ESR190 is the factory number or an after market number. I found that at Parts unlimited,Harley-Davidson also uses that part number. This is what the ESR190 looks like.

It would be nice to be able to cross referance to other bikes.

RE: More R/R stuff
Thanks for all the effort, TBT. It would indeed be useful to have a resource which gives alternatives, in case you're stuck somewhere with a blown r/r, and a less than knowledgeable bike parts guy........
A friend of mine, who's very bright on the electrical bits came up with a jury-rig for my bike, which involved connecting a car regulator (Motorola type) into my system, as he figured the rectifier part of the r/r was fine. Worked until I was able to get a replacement from Electrex, who seem to be the only company prepared to give 12 months on road parts, and 6 months on offroad....!
I don't like jury rigged electricals, but if you're stuck.......[:-]

Have a look at www.electrex.uk
They have a chart on their website which gives model numbers for most bikes, and you can see which models use the same r/r. Don't know about originals, other than those already supplied.
Thanks TBT for info.....

RE: More R/R stuff
I had a look at a swedish parts distibutor, Duells. They list aftermarket R/R units, and their list states the same bikes who uses the same R/R as TimBucTwos link. Just a little note: Would you like to know what the price is? 1680 SEK, this is 265$!!! Those in TimBucTwos link costs 80$! [&o]

RE: More R/R stuff
There's a very informative thread on R/R here: Cane is in pain In short it says: don't replace with Honda's original R/R, but another, like the one from Yamaha R1 for example. More info here "How to tell if your R/R is about to die" and here "Changing the Honda R/R".
Thanks to R1000 for info and linking!

RE: More R/R stuff
The R/R is definitely the "weakest link" in an otherwise brilliant bike - having replaced 5 r/r's in the past 3 years I can confirm what it says in the article - thanks Cosmobob. I now have one with a HUGE heatsink, not that it will help when your stator's also cooked...........as I found out.....[sm=exactly.gif]
