Marbles in the gearbox

Marbles in the gearbox
I found a false neutral between 4th and 5th gears this morning and it sounded like there was a bag of marbles rolling around in there. I gave the pedal a stab up a gear and it went in and was riding fine again.
The revs were pretty low (2k) and I didn't put much thought into the changes when it found the neutral.
Is this a case of my own poor riding skills or does it indicate there could be something wrong?

RE: Marbles in the gearbox
Mine doesn't like changes at low revs from fourth gear up. If I try for sixth at low revs (trying to be quiet around the edge of town) sometimes I can feel with my foot that it hasn't engaged, so I just keep the clutch in and pressure on the gear lever for an extra second or so until I feel it go in.
I wouldn't worry too much unless it keeps doing it, but I know mine prefers me to change above about 3K......I sometimes prefer to change above about 9K..... YeeeHaaa.
Dave.
Just a thought; you said "this morning". Was your gearbox still a bit cold, and oil a bit thick?

RE: Marbles in the gearbox
keep the rev's up dood, 2k is just over idle, no where near close enough to upshift.
changing at that range will often give you a FN, particularly if you are lazy on the foot.
i suggest you ride around a few times, and keep a little pressure upwards on the gear selector, once appropriate revs are achieved the selector should pop it in to gear with no clutch. then make a mental note that that particular range is the bottom point at which your bike LIKES to change gears.
