Looking for front tire
I have an 87' 1000f and am in need of a new front tire. I replaced the rear about 500 miles or less ago and now the front needs replacing. Currently there is an older metzler laser M2 on it. Metzler quit making these tires so I switched to michelen pilot roads. I also have a zzr 1200 and have read great things about them on that bike. However, michelen does not make the pilot roads in a 110/80/r17. They do make a 110/70/r17. Does anyone have any experience running a 110/70 instead of am 80? How much does it affect the speedo and has anyone had the tire squish or squirm from running a smaller sidewall?
I have also seen the michelen macadam 100x and they do make that in a 110/80/r17, but I am curious if it will cooperate with the pilot road. Please help!!!

Hi,
I don't know why they are putting front 110/80 and rear 170 . I have allways been driving with 120/70/17 and 180/55/17. Maybe the bike is a bit "harder" but it is better so in higher velocity and in curves. And they can be also cheaper than smaller ones.
Tomorrow morning we are going to Lappland and northern Norwegen and Sweden. Small roads, mountain roads and raindeers. And no lower temperature than 0 celsius we hope. About four days and 1000 km /day. Means hole day driving, sauna and short dreams in a cottage.

Well, the 1987 US model came with a 110/80/r17 front and a 140/80/r17 rear. I am running a 155/60/r17 on the rear and a 110/80/r17 on the front. I am thinking about using a 110/80/r17 michelen macadam or a 110/70/r17 pilot road up front to go with the 155/60/r17 michelen pilot road on the rear. Does anyone see a problem with running the 110/70/r17 pilot road compared to sticking with the stock 110/80/r17? The rear is a pilot road and the front either pilot road or macadam. Is there a problem with mixing the macadam with the pilot road?
I my opinion it's always best to use the same tires front and back, but I don't think it will create a problem though. When i bought my bike I had a Michelin Pilot Road up front and a Bridgestone BT020 at the rear, no problems there...
About the speedo thing. If the setup isn't changed from early models to my 96, the speedocable is attached to the front sprocket of the drivechain, so as far as I can tell, it shouldn't be a problem fitting another size.

if you change out your rims for that of a 1990 and up, you can then use 120/180 tires that come on newer sportbikes...
i have a white front rim with a good condition (<500 miles) Dunlop D207 if you are interested...
