K&N Stock Replacement question

I was asking because I saw a demonstration once that showed that even though the K&N flowed as much air when clean as the OEM paper filter, once they got even a little dirty the flowed dropped considerably on the K&N, and the K&N doesn't filter the smaller particles as well as paper.
Ive got a friend who builds racing quads for sand, he told me that he won't run K&N on his machines because the fine sand goes right thru the elements.
He runs after market paper pods with oiled foam socks.
I've always used the OEM paper filter, I replace it every 5000 miles.
Yea they cost $35.00 but..........
