Default Disc Life???

Just wondering how many Ks should the front discs be able to do before thay are unroadworthy. Reason i ask is that i am in the market to buy a cbr and i have seen a cbr with 20 something thousand ks on it but i know it needs new discs. Would they wear this quick or has it been round the clock.
Cheers
Damo

More likely sticky calipers? But if all three discs are worn to that level, yes maybe round the clock.

Like for other signs of high mileage, worn footpeg rubbers etc.

Also, if you know the rego number is there not some site in Aus that you can check the mileage at each WOF (roadworthy cert.) that has been issued for the last ten years? There certainly is in NZ and I assume you guys would be ahead of us in that sort of stuff.

Mine has 110000K's on original discs. I think that one's been around the clock..........

Exclamation dodgy??

20K on one set of discs is wrong! Either calipers/brakes are binding or the mileage is way out.

Changed my stock items at 76000.

Yea, I just turned over 1100 miles and my pads aren't even showing signs of wear, much less the discs.

Sounds like a turnover like Shadow said.

What are your symptoms?

Are they cracked or show massive warping?

Make sure you wheels are properly installed

You might also find a brake shop that'll turn motorcycle discs. They should be able to find out the minimum thickness your discs should be before you need to them replace them. With proper turning, you can get a lot of life out of them
They'll put a micrometer on them and be able to tell you. Having automobile brake rotors turned in my neck of the woods runs 10-20 dollars US per disc. They'll feel like new afterward

This is from an after market supplier in Australia.

Front Brake Disc Honda CBR1000 CBR1000F 1993-1999 [DBFSCBR188]
This brake disc meets the required minimum thickness and is legal for road use.
The disc has the MIN TH markings as required by Australian Design Regulations (ADR).

Looked at my rotors ( 1987 US model). Clearly stamped on the outside is MIN TH 3.5 MM. So if there is any way you can mic the rotors on this bike. That should give you a finding on how old those rotors are

No symptoms. Just using the disc thickness to help determine if the bike has done 20 000ks or 120 000ks. Looks like 120 000 it is. After getting a look at the grips and foot rests it appears Mr Bikeshop might not be as honest as he could be.

Anyway have found another beauty closer to home with a genuine 50 000 on it and its the model and colour i like
Maybe by the end of next week i will finally own a 1000F
