Default RE: Importance of service?

I have never synched the carbs on my bikes other than after a total dismantling including linkage. The linkages are pretty good and don't really move. Once off idle it means less and less anyway. If it's idling OK I'd be inclined to leave it alone. It certainly wouldn't be high on my maintenance list if idling decent.

One thing I have seen folks do is run into a sudden problem that'scaused by a plugged idle circuit from sitting with gas in it, attribute that to synch which will never happen suddenly, and then attach the tool, chase a vacuum balance which is all those things do, never find the balance because it's a misfiring cylinder which will dramatically alter the vacuum reading, and then after getting everything all whacked out still have to go fix the original problem and then go back and get the carbs back to correct.

Again, my own experience on several bikes with over 100,000 miles on them was that without ever synching the carbs, they ran fine. That includes taking some apart and cleaning pilot jets but never disturbing the rack or linkage assembly therefore not altering the original synch settings. Just passing on my own experience.

TBT, has anyone done a "how to" on carb balance and valve lash adjustment with pictures on the Forum....?
That would save us all a good amount of cash ( which we could then spend on reg/recs and cam chains)he he[:@]
Agree, 8000 miles for oil change is way too long - Honda have it wrong .....

YES at least two threads I'm aware of if memory serves me correctly collector posted one with pictures and someone else also if no one else uses the search feature to run them down I will do my best to run them down and post a link in this thread and I'm with DAD on the carburetor synchronization
BTW
The search feature is hit and miss at this forum but it's not really anyone's fault it's just the way the software Works
