RE: how to replace a headlight bulb
On my -92, there was a cover under the front of the top fairing that have to be removed firts, quite simple. Thenyou have to stick up the hand and more or less work in the blind to release the connector and the lamp clamp wire. It is easier if one put up a mirror firts andsee were parts are located and how the connector andlocking wires are fastened etc. It is reallynot difficult but takes some patience.
Why don’t practice right now, then you can work without stress and willhave new lamps in that will last many years.

R1000's method may work on his '92, but on model years '93 and up it is almost impossible to do it that way. Instead, come in through the top- its much easier that way. Remove the windscreen, take off the molding around the guages, move the guages out of the way (but don't disconnect them) and you'll have access tothe headlight bulbs.

I went through the top but I didn't have to take apart as single thing. I just pull the rubber boot off, pull the plug, undo the spring clip, out with the old, in with the new, put everything back and I'm done. 1996 CBR1000F, easy as pie for me thankfully. THen again, I have only had to replace 2 bulbs in the 35,000 miles I've had my bike for.

CR500. how do you get to the rubber boot from the top without moving the guages out of the way? It is possible to get to the boot from underneath like R1000 does, it's just that then you're working blind, and trying to get the bulb retainer clip off this way is a major pain in the ****.

I have tried to go from under and can't do it with my big hands. I go from the top without removing the guages. It still is not easy. I think the best way is to face in the direction the bike would be traveling and standing on the right side change the right bulb with the left hand. From the left, facing forward, with the right hand change the left bulb.
At times you need to reach in and feel around at the parts without the bulb to get an idea of what you are up against. You may also have to move the handle bars inone direction to get a little more hand clearacne.
