Default How to bypass headlight (Not dialup freindly)

Hiya folks.

Here is a how-to on how to install a switch for the headlight. This will allow your low-beam to be turned off & on at will.

Here we go.........

It was a lovely sunny day in Perth (Australia)

So I decided to bypass the headlight.

1st you'll need to remove the upper fairing and locate where the wire for the low beam comes in. Te relay is located on the left of the bike.

The wire we are after is the white one.

You then need to make yourself up a pair of wire leads from 10-Amp wire with spade terminals and heatshrink.

Then cut the white wire and attach terminals to the ends with heatshrink.

Then attach the yellow leads and tape up well.

Then get yourself a toggle switch.

Then tape up securely....

I am installing my switch on the inner grey fairing on the left. (The one that covers the fuses). I drilled some small holes and put a dab of glue.

Then pass a cable tie through the holes and attach the switch. Even with the cable tie the switch can move a little which gives me the ****s so that is why I used the glue as well in previous pic.

Then put the fairing back on. I then put a rubber boot designed for the switch on the bike.

Here it is out of the way, but still accessable, but not prone to get drenched.

Hope all this helps.

Nice write up and pics -- I give it 5 throttles up. I may end up moving it to the 900+ modifications with a sticky.

Thanks Chainstretcher, I should have mentioned that this mod ONLY bypasses the Headlight. The taillight will still be on as always.

BTW in your Avatar you have a LED showing 228mph. I am just curious. What did you do that on?

Turbo Busa -- 228mph was my personal best. Have an aquaintance out west that put up a big 256mph on his.

Trips,

Is the white wire the low bean power postitive?
Since I live on the East Coast, the mornings are in the 30's now[:@] I'm installing heated grips. I need to tap into the low beam positive wire so so if I leave the swtich for the heaters on, I don't drain the battery because the headlight power is cut when you kill the ignition.

The white wire doesn't carry much current at all It is just for switching the relay and it comes from the dimmer switch. The White/Black wire is the one that actually carries current to the low beam light.

But really for an accessory like heated stuff you really need to make a new circuit from the battery with a relay and a switch. Its the only way to be sure.

Oh and Chainstretcher 228mph is awsome! I remember doing 190mph once on a mdified ZX-11 and loved it. One thing though I have always wondered how you stop weaving at that speed. Maybye its because I am such a wide *cough* lad, but I find that minute movements of my shoulders and elbows would be enough to change the slipstream characteristics to make it start to wander.
