Default Hormonal Starter

Last Saturday the bike started just fine. All of the following week the starter wouldn't engage and made a horrendous clunking grinding noise when tested.

This Saturday, the bike starts just fine.

Diagnoses?

...and please don't tell me to only ride on Saturdays

No Woof - only ride every SECOND Saturday.

Sounds like the starter clutch was slipping - then gripped. The rollers could be worn.

And by 'tested' do you mean you pulled the starter motor out or pressed the starter button?

Not a CBR1000F clutch (Magna I think) but same principle.

Cheers, SB

Yes Seb, just pushing the starter button.

Hoping it may be a slight glitch but knowing I need to delve into it.

Thanks for the pic on the problem

Check battery voltage Woof, mine made some ugly sounds a year or two back, and it joyfully turned out to be a slightly lazy battery.

Don't be deceived by Sebs helpful picture; they're not meant to look like that. The normal state of play is a whole lot more together than that.

I wouldn't rule out dirty contacts in the starter solenoid.
Maybe its getting intermittent juice and causing clunking.
Just wanted to toss that one in there.

If it does it again bypass it with jumpers.

Voltage drop - check the ground to the frame and clean it
