Question Help and device on a 97 old hurricane

Hello everyone,

I recently acquired an old Honda Cbr1000F Hurricane 87 with 50,000 km/30,000 miles. The bike has been sitting since the year 2000 and was about to be thrown away when it was given to me for free. As a student, I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to work on this bike and bring it back to life.

Before trying to start the motorcycle, I changed all the liquids, including the oil, coolant, and brake fluid. However, I'm having some trouble starting the bike. It seems to be getting stuck on heavy metal blows, and I'm not sure where to look to fix the issue. I have recorded a video of my attempts to start the bike. In the video, you can hear the bike attempting to start, but it seems to be getting stuck on heavy metal blows.

I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions on where to start troubleshooting this problem. If anyone has experience with older Honda motorcycles or has dealt with a similar issue, I would be grateful for any tips or insights.

Thank you in advance for your help!

The sounds are due to petrol filling cylinders. Starter-clutch is slipping & stripping trying to compress liquid. Carbs have been leaking petrol down intake and filling up cylinders. You're risking terminal engine damage if you continue trying to start bike. At very least you may strip starter ring-gear. At worse you can punch holes in pistons and/or bend and/or snap con-rods.

1. remove all spark plugs and crank engine to blow out all liquids

2. send carbs and petcock in for professional restoration. Will come back factory fresh clean and bike will run like brand new off showroom floor

Any bike that's been sitting for more than 1-yr requires complete carb tear-down and restoration. All that old petrol turns to plastic and cannot be dissolved.
