Default GEAR SELECTIO

Over this weekend i found it hard to select first gear then coming home from work this morning i couldnt select any gear so ended up riding home in second! what could the problem be? its only done 32000 miles!! a friend said to change the oil as he had a simula problem with a bike years ago and changing the oil solved it.If i do end up having to check or replace any gearbox parts do the crank cases have to be split or can you work on it by removing the sump? if its a case of splitting the crank cases would it not be better to replace the engine? ANY advice appreciated

Could be the clutch, does it disengage.
I can't see changing the oil fixing that, but It can improve it's function
Can you change gear with the engine off?
does the gear lever move ok?

Could be
*old clutch fluid
*old dirty engine oil
*clutch parts worn
You can work on the clutch without splitting the engine casings.
Check the manual for the rest.

First things first- check your fluid level in the clutch master cylinder. If it's low, you'll have difficulty shifting.

I fitted a new braided clutch line recently and the fluid is ok.Engine oil is due a change, when trying to change gear the lever moves but it wont actually engage into gear also tried with the engine off and eventually i did get it to change gear then once it had changed i could change gear as normal untill i stopped and then it wouldnt go into first

Had a look at the clutch theres no sign of any wear on the plates, basket, springs and pushrod i've started taking bits off now to gain access to the gear shift mechanism is that a good idea or not?

Have you tried bleeding the clutch? You stated earlier that you recently put a new braided line it. Maybe some air got trapped in it and it just needs to be burped.

These bikes have a wet clutch and should without the clutch. I would sit on the bike with it not running and rock the bike back and forth while shifting up and down to see if the shifting drum would free up.
