Default Fuel Leak

Hi there,

Rode my bike one day with no problems. A few days later I started it up and fuel is leaking out and pouring out of my bottom fairing. I took the fairing off and so far all I can see is a hose that has rotted apart. It comes from what looks like a rubber pan under the gas tank. When I followed the tube, however, it only seems to go to the overflow tubes, and I could not find this part in the Honda manual. I didn't start it with the fairing off only becuase I dont like gas spilling. That will be my next step. Does anyone know of this piece or if it could be my problem? I don't think it is since the leak only occured when the bike was running, but I dont know what this thing is for.

Default RE: Fuel Leak

The reason your bike leaks fuel when it is running is because of the automatic fuel shutoff. There is one line running to the shutoff. It is the vacuum line from the engine, from #1 cylinder intake port; it opens the fuel passage when the engine is cranked or running.
There is another line that supplies the fuel to the carbs. It is the larger of the two. It sounds to me that that it may be your problem.
The over flow line runs from the tank, you can see a hole for the overflow when you pop the fill lid, to the ground.

So I took the fairing off to check and could not find any problems. I started it to try and locate the leak, and there was none. ran it for a few a little while and still no leak. There is gas in it, so........ I don't know. Any thoughts?

Could be the carb over flow line where the fuel is coming. I had mentioned the gas tank over flow line before. If you have a sticky float valve, the carb bowl will over flow and gas will drain out of the carb bowl over flow line. I had them stick on just about every bike I owned. Most of the time some dirt of other crap gets in between the needle and seat and you will have this kind of problem. It happens also when a bike sit a long time. If it keeps happening, look under the bike and locate what line gas is coming out of and trace it back to that carb. There is one for each carb. That will be the one that needs cleaning.

I have had good luck using a long screwdriver and opening up the bowl drain and flushing the crap out. I had to do that to number 2 carb on my bike 2 months ago.
That's why it's a good idea to put a fuel filter in line.

Good luck!
