Front tire sizes, anyone?
Hello, CBR-Gurus and all!
Looking around this excellent forum I've found quite a few threads on tires. Most of them are dealing with driving characteristics, costs, mileage and sizes on rear tires, but not so many deal with front tires.
I know the standard front size to be 120/70R17, but I'm curious as to if any other sizes fit? And if any other sizes fit, what kind of driving characteristics have you experienced?

120/70/17 frontis a very good profile that works absolutely great bothon heavy old bikes and on the track on the verylatest sport bikes in extreme racing situations. There is reallyno reason to go to another dimension on the front tyre, the limiting factorsits behind the handle bars, and the money should be spent on improving riding skillsif youwant to go faster.

I agree, changing the front tyre size wouldn't really help. If you went wider, it would make the handling ponderous and heavy. If you went narrower, it would fall into corners and not brake well. One ting I did on my FL was to fit a 180/55 rear instead of the standard 170/60. I'd heard it said that this would make the bike feel heavier to turn, but I really haven't noticed any difference. What I have noticed, though, is a greater range of tyre fitments because more modern bikes all seem to use this size. I got some Avon AV45/46 ST from www.bikesparesonline.co.uk and they seem to suit the bike really well. Good luck!
