Default fork disassembly help

Hi everyone. I'm changing out the fork seals on my 88 hurricane and I have the fork apart but i can't figure out how to get the damper out of the tube, i can't see any fasteners holding it in. Do i need a special tool?

Did you remove the allen head bolt at the bottom of the fork?

Also you might find the workshop manuals to be of help here :-

Workshop Manuals - CBR Forum - Enthusiast forums for Honda CBR Owners

and here :-

Yes, I've taken out the bolt and i have the manual but the diagram isn't quite the same. It just looks like there are seals at each end and i can't reach to remove them.

Okay, so i got the manual from a different forum and it must be for another year (out doesn't specify) so the damper just came out the other direction. There's still some parts in the tube though and the manual in hawkwind's post doesn't say how they come out, do they come out?

Btw, thanks for the link hawkwind!

What year bike do you have Swoop? 87/88 forks are different to the later ones?

Have you actually separated the chrome stanchion(slider) from the lower fork tube?

It's an 88. Yeah, the forks are completely apart except for those three or four pieces at the end that the damper sits on.

Unfortunately my bike is a '91 so has the later fork design and though I have rebuilt my forks, I'm not familiar with the early design.

I'm sure someone else with the MK1 will be along to help soon.

I'll have a look in the manual in the mean time, see if I can figure something out for you.

Normal way you do this routine is

First - allen bolt undone
then
tops off and springs out
then
pull like bejaysus in a ratcheting
motion on the fork tubes with the
result being the seals and the whole
innerds comes right out in one motion
pretty much.

And no Hawk it's not whole lot different than
the 90

if the inner piece is still stuck in there
I'd screw the hex back in and tap it gently
until it is free.

Your first photo has me wonder why there is
a seal still in there ? !- as it's one of the first things
out and one of the last to go back on almost.
