The hex bolt screws into the damper which is already removed. Both pics are of the tube itself and the seal that's left in there couldn't possibly come out before the damper. I would guess the part with for little fingers is some type of clip holding the rest in, but I can't see anyway to get it out.

Yes that's a peculiar picture sure enough mark. Almost looks like the fork has come apart leaving all the gubbins inside the tube.

I'd suggest maybe you could prise them out carefully with a screwdriver.

As an afterthought, did you remove the seal retaining spring clip from under the dust seal? Item No14 in this parts fiche :-

I got some more pics to show just how far I've gone.

I did the the bejezus part and have removed the dust cap, circlip, fork seal and bushings; those are all outside of the tube, the parts in the original pics are inside the tube.

Good job I did forget to mention the clip holding the seal in - but hey you figured it out - imo - it's always a good idea to replace those teflon coated bushings.

But I didn't figure it out, the parts are still in the tube and i still can't get them out. Unless someone has the answer soon, I think I'm just going to do the best I can to clean them where they are and forget about it.

Wow, i can't believe nobody has seen this. I've taken apart two sets now and all four tubes look exactly the same. I would assume that the tube is just made that way except that the one piece is made of plastic and kind of springy so it could wear out. Oh well, I'm tired of messing with it and ready to ride. Thanks for trying guys.

I just did my 1988's forks last year and saw nothing like that in either tube. Is it possible that's some kind of aftermarket addition? If you've seen it in four different tubes I suppose not.

I wouldn't think so, all the Reddy of the posts matched the book perfectly. There was nothing in your tubes at the bushing end?
