That's a Barber Park hat. And I've got a piece of exhaust piping tacked on there at the moment (courtesy of Autozone, 2" pipe fits just right), but with no gas, it's a bitch to make a good weld that won't blow through the old piping.

Yeah I bet it's a complete beeeatch to try and do it on that old soft thin shyte stuff without blowing it to bits without gas

I'd almost cut it (the autozone piece) to have some "fingers" to reach up further for support or tack a few bits more
to form an outer collar

But hey you are a gifted welder are you not ?

Oh and Jim and TimBuctwo will be up here next week expect I'll maybe see that same Barber hat then too !

I love welding too but my arc would blow the **** out of that. Sprock's plan to cut fingers is the go. At least you'd be able to hold it with a heap of tacks and some dodgy muffler bandage to seal it temporarily.

There is actually a thicker part that I ground down in the photo that I'm welding to. I have a ****load of grinding/rewelding to do because I pressure tested it last night (I thought it looked good) and I got bubbles everywhere
