Exhaust sound
Hi guys. Got a question about exhaust noise. Installed a brand new V& H SS2R system. Looks great but sounds terrible. Very high pitched and buzzy... Has anyone done mods to this system? Is there a way to change the sounds ... Im looking for a deeper throatier sound. My Yoshi was a little better bu not much... Is changing the can the only way to change the sound???

I had the same issue with a new V&H SS on an 87.
It also moved the power band up above 5g's.
Removing the baffle did not help.
Got rid of the V&H can and grafted a 04 ZX-10 ti. can
The straight through V&H= track can

I had the exact same can as BayAreaRider shows in his 2:nd picture in my first attemt to build a new exhaust. It sounded terrible high exactly as you described. Just changing the can to one with more volume and more perforated inner tube gives a more damped deeper sound even if it is straight through.

Even a large can will sound pitchy and wimpy if the outlet tube has a small diameter.

I thought it was the type of packing in the can that was used for removing the high pitched part of exhaust noise.
Also the area you pick up the sound from can change how deep it is - the typical baffle (noise killer) picks up the sound from about 125 to 150mm in to the can ( the quiet/deep sound zone ).
you can play with the length of the baffle/noise killer pipe to tweak the sound.
