I haven't had this one apart but have had other in line 4s in bits...and put them back together
. You don't need much space if you box everything.
If you get your manuals sorted (I'd suggest consulting a factory one and a Haynes) it really isn't that hard if you keep yourself organised. My old man told me to wrap and label everything you take off, especially screws, nuts etc. He was bloody right too! you think "I'll remember where that goes". You might....
There's a few bright sparks on here who could give you the drum and nobody will do as good a job as you because nobody else cares as much!
Of course, there's always the nice red one. I'd jump at that if I needed another.

Starting point, Why are you looking to have the engine re-built? I've been hearing 80-100k on stock engine with proper maintenace. Maybe, have the top end over-hauled but a re-build is more a performance issue (i.e. racing). It costs about 80 bucks to have a compression/bleed down check done. If the bike passes that, you don't need a re-build. If you are having compression issues, maybe. IMO, it is more cost effective to buy a used engine and replace it, if you are just completely married to the bike. You can often find them for 600-800 US$, with 6-12k miles.
Other-wise, for $2000-$3000, you can replace the entire bike with a low-mileage used one just like it.

Here is Aus a low mileage unit usually goes for $5000 OR MORE have seen as high as nearly $7000. My compression is low in #3 cyl and the plug keeps oiling up and stops firing every 250-300klm. The bike was blowing oil when I got it at x-mas and
I was hoping about $2000 would fix it for an all up price of $3800 for a good bike(i only paid $1800 for it, so I might look at just the top end rebuild for around that price
