Engine compatability??
I am in the process pf negotiating for a pretty pristine 1990 cb1000f in silver (OMG it is BEAUTIFUL!, but I digress...) It is reported to have a blown motor. I have not heard it run yet - supposedly it idles but makes ugly noises. Anyway in my calculus to determine value I have begun to look for a replacement engine (seems to be around 1000$ for a low milage example). My question to the brain trust is this: What years will be compatable? Thanks in advance for the help! ALso anyone who may have one please feel free to chime in.

Hiyu and Welcome mate
A blown motor ? how much do you think they will want for her like that?
A good 90 model only goes for around the $1500 - $2500 for near new !!
They do vary a bit depending on the general finish/condition and parts that need attention..
Still sounds very nice .. and you sound like a very happy CBR1000 owner too be ..

Thanks Classic, the current price is 1500$ as is, but the bike is in excellent cosmetic shape with good rubber. E-bay engines are going for ~1000$. I could do the swap myself so I may only have to pay 2500 for a nice example with a low milage engine...let us pray.

You might want to wave $1200 or even a little less right under their nose in folding stuff and see if they will budge ???
at the end $2500 is great for one in top condition.... but remember what your time is worth ??
good luck anyway mate
