It seems to be true. I hav'nt found any suitable way to be able to check mine, as even a continuity check on the yellow wires is impossible, but when the system is conected then you can check the curcuit. Hard to explain, but will try and put a bit up on the forum at a later date when I have understood it myself.

Default RE: Electrical Disaster

Had some electrical gremlins a while back.

Usede the multimeter to check the voltage drop between the battery + terminal and working from the fusebox back to the starter solenoid. Measuring voltage drop is done under normal electrical load instead of measuring resistance (Ohm) which is done with the battery disconnected.
Drop was around 1.5 Volt fusebox <-> battery + and 0,9 volt between solenoid <-> battery +. (Not good)

After using electrical contact spray on ALL connectors I could see it improved to 0,5 Volt fusebox <-> battery + and solenoid <-> battery + went to near zero difference. (Acceptable). That means there was a 1 volt loss in just the connectors because of poor conductivity. When pulling some current through the connectors they will heat up because of the resistance in the connection which in turn leads to even poorer contact and eventually burned connectors which can short to the frame if you're really unlucky.

Had already upgraded the ground wires (battery - <-> frame & battery - <-> r/r) in a previous session so that was not an issue

Please remember that this is NOT recommended for non electrically inclined people. Use the schematics and your head if you're measuring live circuits.

In short. Disconnect battery and use contact spray on the connectors

ok i think i might have found my problem took good meter checked everything again readings were a little lower on the alt check tryed to check reg\ret per manual got no readings on anything (after reading further in other post others tried to check their 87-88 reg/ret and got no readings) but took my battery to work and load tested and it was showing bad so tomorrow im takeing it to a battery place to have it checked really sucks battery only 3 weeks old should have been the first thing i checked but you live and learn will let yall know if the battery was my problem in coulpe of days

ok took battery to the battery shop they checked and said it was good but was discharged the guy i purchased the bike from said it was a new battery which was true he forgot to mention that he did not follow the directions for chargeing it before putting into service so the problem was the battery was never fully charged and the bike was putting all the volts & ampsto it that it could which in turn melted the wires since the battery has been fully charged the wire (wich has been replaced) dosent get hot to the touch after running any more hope this may help others with the same issue
