I usually try an Impact Screwdriver - the shock of the impact usually loosens most screws.

Only other option is going to be drilling it out with a smaller drill bit first.

I've had good success with impact drivers.

Maybe some penetrating oil like Q20 or similar, allow to stand a while, then a whack with the impact driver should do it, Carl.

Have you tried tightening it first ? This certainly works with old wood screws that are gunked up with old paint , and if the screw head is knackered turning the other way it should get more grip .

cautious not to strip the threads or break the head off... then your in deeper water than when you tried turning it the correct way.

My vote is for the impact driver.
I have to use one every time I remove that screw.

DON'T OVER TIGHTEN IT WHEN YOU PUT IT BACK.

When I reinstall it, I snug it up, not tight. I would rather loose it than have to drill it out the next time.

I know this is and old one, just to prove that everything goes well when you use the right tools, i had purchase a screw remover when the threads on the head of the screw are stripped, did not work, since it was the end of the season i put everything away and let it sleep, meanwhile i had purchase a rotary tool and in there was a small cut off disk, well i used it to do a groove trough the screw to use a flat screwdriver, put the screwdriver and click came out, total time of operation 5 minutes!

Love those rotary tools you can do anything with those with very much precision...

so thought i would share the trick.

Have a good day!
