DIY servicing
I've pulled apart and rebuilt old lawnmowers, whipper snippers, a holden 179 and 202 with help from relatives who are mechanics or at least familiar with the way these things are supposed to work over the last 10 years but it has always been essentially a cleaning role and the timing ligh and stuff was done while I watched...
I don't have those people around at the moment but I would like to take on the role of servicing my bike in future (after i get it serviced and tuned and checked out by the local dealer). I reckon if I can keep track of where the bolts go and take photos as I am pulling it apart, I should be able toget it back together. The servicing manual was no help in fixing the speedo sprocket, I'm guessing because it's really easy once you know how...
If you are someone who has tried doing the work based on the instructions in the manual, did you find it left out simple but important information? Or are there any major jobs that high k bikes may need that is leasves out of glosses over?
Those of you who do all your own work... how did you get over the initial hurdle of the more technical parts of services and tuning? When do you draw the line and say "too hard for me" I'll pay someone else to do it?

RE: DIY servicing
For people who don't know, Holden is General Motors Australia,
and the 179 & 202 are cubic inches for the 60's and 70's inline 6's
Though, I prefer a Falcon, that's Ford Australia, I believe that the US will see them sold in there country by the end of the decade.
it's rumoured that the Australia Ford Fairlane will replace the Crown Vic.
Now, back to the things that are fun, bikes
