Clutch Help
I have an 87 1000F and when I pullled the clutch handle in for the first time this season.... nothing... Hmmm.
Does anyone know if this is an air in the line issue, i.e. one that can be solved by bleeding? Or did something, like a seal, pop over the winter?
Any advice is totally appreciated.
Thanks

G'Day Chuck,
It could be a number of things.......
1. Clutch fluid drained out over winter - check for leaks at the clutch lever and at the slave cylinder. Renew fluid and bleed system
2. Clutch pushrod seized - there is a 'how to' on the site on how to remedy this and refurb the slave cylinder.
3. Clutch plates may have seized together over the winter. Take off the side cover and check/loosen plates.
Let us know how you go.
Cheers, SB

If it's a hydraulic clutch, it should have a fluid drain and replacement/bleeding (at least every-other year).
Just like the brakes, the fluid is hydroscopic and will become contaminated with water-vapor, over time.
If it's been a while, I would make that the first thing to try.
It's cheap and is a better solution than just doing an air-bleed.
Good luck, Ern

You do realize don't you, that the Mk1's don't have linked brakes?
Chuck, if you do get for a total fluid replace as the wise man Ern has suggested, temporarily top up the master cylinder with meths.
It gives you a good color break, so that you can see when all the old fluid has come through, and then when the new replacement fluid starts to come through.
