Ok, stupid question. If the arrow on the petcock is pointing up, is that reserve? I rather not find out the hard way.

Nope did not have to change them after all, after i changed the brake lever id did about 500km and the warping on one of the disk dissapeared, so i it semmes i saved my brand new set of oem front disks!

Up is on, down is reserve and center is off.

Yeah I know all that, the problem I have is that no matter where the arrow is pointing the result is always the same, fuel runs until there is none left in the tank. So if I want to do any work on the fuel system I have to drain the tank first ( I can do this with the arrow in the off position if I feel so inclined). Leads me to the conclusion that the rubber gasket with the holes in it inside the petcock must be leaking?

Should do the trick!
Or perhaps you just need to tighten the centre screw on the dial up a bit.

Mines an 87 Robbie, I suspect what I need is the rubber seal that has 3 or 4? holes in it that directs the fuel intake from the main or the resrve inlets

Does yours leak around the outer seal TK?
