Changes to our forum
Steve (Classic) and I have been in discussions with Gregg, our helpful and long-suffering Admin, who has agreed to give us some "stickies" at the top of our page for the stuff we need most often.
(and often can't find)
My question to you is
Which bits need stickies ?
I'd say we need one for "how to's -to store all the step by step stuff,
A place to store finished projects and specific info etc
A Separate " The Workshop " board
For General questions
and mechanical related discussion, as well as spec sheets, where to find part numbers,
workshop manuals, fiches etc
A Separate " Parts for sale or found " board
For parts located , for sale, swap or for free.
A Separate board
For all off topic stuff
Call the off topic the Bucket of Blood Saloon...........? The Blood and Guts Saloon ? What else ?
Main board would be for "heads up" notices to changes in stickies, new member intro's, pics of new bikes and/or members,
crashes, touring, personal advice on anything not covered in the stickies - there'll be plenty. There always is !
Maybe a sticky for "members rides" ?
Let us know what you think in this thread, and we'll put it all together.
This is a great chance to "manage" our information better.
We'll give it a week so everyone can participate, and then make the changes.

My thought
Shadow, since you stated, "Let us know what you think in this thread, and we'll put it all together", I thought for a second. I thought Stickies were my underwear sticking to my crack on a hot day. That is why I work on rock fences in the snow, so that I don't get da stickies!
When I had my Kawasaki KZ1300s, I was a member of their site www.kz1300.com . They organized the site like you are trying to set this forum up. Here is what happened.
When the site was "free flowing", members kept asking the same questions over and over again, but they interacted a lot. As new members joined, they too asked the same questions (cam chain tensioners especially). Nothing moved forward kind of like Maslow's Needs Hiearchy. We were all stuck at the bottom of the Pyramid of needs. After a few years, the site developed and member's rides were presented and pictured repairs were added and etc, etc. Information became easy to find and new members were automatically redirected to the cam chain repair page first. Eventually, everything you needed to know about the KZ1300 was at your fingertips without having to ask another member. Some of the members became Patron Saints of the bike. Their opinion was Godly and they were the ones who you were directed to to answer your newby questions or difficult questions. "Plan, organize, lead and control" just what management does in life. So, the site became managed very well. Pop in, answer question, pop out. "See you in a few weeks" when other problems with the bike develop was the basic development of the site. Here is the good parts. Pictures of member's bikes. Member group ride pictures (gatherings). Pictured step-by-step of how to repair things (like the great picture step-by-step of how to replace a CBR clutch on this forum). Here is the bad that came from the site.
Members no longer needed to B.S. with eachother. They went to the "stickie" (site links) and got their answer. No more real interaction between members (not good). The site became a "Haynes manual" for repairs. "Go to this link" was the answer. Here is my concern - besides my underwear getting caught in my crack on a hot day - now known as "da stickies!"
Limit the amount of "how to fit it" link stuff. Links are dumb and can not ask questions of your situation and can not encourage the limited knowledged mechanic. Troubleshooting is what I am talking about. Pictured approaches to major repairs are great and there is always a need for those (cam chain tensioner replacement, clutch replacement, pulling out your underwear from your crack to get rid of da stickies, etc). Here is my two cents worth (my recommendations).
Stickies and pictured repairs, member's rides, member group gatherings all work well. Limit the "go to this link" directives (management). A lot of us read this forum because of the daily interaction with fellow riders on the subject of CBRs or on international understanding keep us coming back daily.
Now can someone tell me what those darn things are that hang down from a saddle that your boots go in? I have a biker joke with sheep sexuality being involved, but can't for the life of me remember what those boot placement thingys are called and the joke just isn't a joke with them in the punch line.... Help and old man out, what are those saddle dangaly things called?

Shadow's help on this one
Shadow, Nick says that those thingys that hang down from a saddle are called sturrips. What do you think Shadow, is that right? I was talking about a biker having sex with a sheep joke. Couldn't do the punch line without knowing the name of those dangaly things. Thanks Nick.
Shadow, help me out here. Biker, sheep sex, knowledge of the name of the saddle danglies. What's that person called? Just ribbin' you Nick... Thanks for the smile you placed on my face this morning....
Shadow what shall we say Nick has done with sheep to know what those things are called?

We are not worthy......
I agree with Nevada that if you have too many stickies the forum stops being a forum and turns into an internet manual, I think you covered most things Shadow but what about "Owners Projects" for restorations and restyling projects? (for stuff other than engine work)
Thanks guys for all the unseen work that you do

Shadow you have some great ideas , seems good to me
Nevada makes some good points , we have a really nice active section here on this forum . Would be a shame to loose any of that.
Would like to add my thanks to that of NagaThai and Sawnee , for all the work behind the scenes , from both yourself and all the others involved , that makes this a great forum

I am sure the re structure of the Cane board will still encourage interaction between us all ..
Most if not all of the chatter in our own Off Topic will be by just us cane riders.. and most of the pocket rocket riders chat will be filtered out .. (not that we don't love them , we do!! )
The main board will be for, as Pete said , general CBR bike and rider stuff...trips , saying hi . pics and anything generally CBR related...ect ect ..
So I think there will be well and truly enough opportunity for interactivity on both these boards Nevada
The stickies as Pete mentioned, I think should be limited to specific areas of ride maintenance issues..and to individuals that develop worthwhile threads on a specific topic.. and all kept in the " How too's "
All these new addition can be implemented very quickly once you guys give us enough imput.
I also would like to encourage anyone that may fee they have skills or talent in the area of writing articles on specific jobs or projects that you may have already done on your CBR..
Special article DONOT have to be huge...For example ...they can be as simple as how to change the hand grips , if you think you have a nice easy way to do it and want to share :-)
Bigger more complex articles would be great if you have the time ..on things like electrical testing procedures for all aspect of the CBR1000 , how to change coolant fluid , how to swap out your chain and sprokets ..... ect ect ..
Anything that can give un experience owners a reference, to check on what and how they are doing on their own projects..
The "Workshop" Question and answers board , I think should be left very similar to the board we have now, except mainly for mechanical questions and answers , with minimal stickie's..
all and any ideas or suggestions would be great from you guys ..
If you do not feel that you want to post your suggestion here , feel free to PM me or Pete..:-)
