Loss of power, valve chatter, chain tensioner issue, for the fun of it, etc.

If I had to rebuild, I would just blue print and balance the engine with a valve seat job to avoid the over heating issues I have read of going with a big bore kit.
Shifting issues, googled and search all signs pointed to forks. Even tried different shifting techniques, just did not like second. I opened it up and the side of the center fork was bent. Bike looked like it was layed down a few times when I bought it but was cheap and I wanted a liter bike. Probably should've gone with the goldwing but I already have a little cbr so figure why not. At least when I get my wife to ride the little cbr and I ride the big cbr we'll look like we should be together lol. Instead of an old fart with a young lady lol.

Edit: 52K, funny enough during the month I was riding it no overheatin issues. Was pretty smooth except for the clunky shifting even under clutch less or hard shifts. I had to baby it into second after that it shifted ok. Sometimes I would just start out in second.... Only issue I have is the previous guy jerry rigged the neatural switch so you can start it in gear. But the stand safety still worked. Either way it's a project for sure and makes me both smile and cuss like a sailor lol.
