As for the right way to do this there are **** loads of how too's and info here about synching. Number 3 is your base carb.
I agree with number 3 carb as base.. does it change for different models? cause NAGA_Thai's how to infers carb number 2 is base. I noticed that last time?

HOW TO - CARB SYNC / BALANCE - MANY PICTURES - CBR Forum - Enthusiast forums for Honda CBR Owners
If it does I've not heard anyone here say so.

Balanace all carbs to be the same as carb 2

That's certainly the implication that I would take from that.

The manuals I printed from this forum for a 93 model says #3 is the base carb.

Nope!
Incorrect information.
See attached from the Honda manual. I know this to be true having done it.

It would kill my cat Henry. It is curiosity that would kill my cat. Cheezees usss! I thought everyone knew that.LOL

Ok, so I had this conversation before in a different thread. I stated that my base is #2 carb. Just to make sure that I am not smoking bananas, I just now went out and lifted the tank and took another peek. I have adjusters on #1, #3 & #4 carbs. My base is defiantly #2 when seen from above facing front, left to right.

It may have to do with where the bike was built or what they had on hand for carbs during assembly. It may effect some years or partial year assembly. The book and my bike do not jive. I don't know exactly why that is but my cat is turning green.

I'm with Tim on this one- Number 2 has no adjuster therfore must be base.
But I agree there may be different set ups for different years / or whatever they had on the production line at the time.

Carburetors’ Synchronization:

Different method for different models (as stated in detailed "How-to's" and Honda Manuals).

There are 2 different sets of carbs on the CBR1000F series. Accordingly;
  • On 1000 H, J, K, L, M, N models, remove the rubber plug from the vacuum take-off point on the top of each carburetor and connect the vacuum gauge hoses to the take-off points.
  • On 1000 P models onward, release the fuel tap vacuum hose from No. 1 cylinder take-off point, the rubber plugs from Nos. 2 and 3 cylinder takeoff points, and the screw and washer from No. 4 cylinder take-off point. Screw an adapter into No.4 take-off point and connect the vacuum gauge hoses.

Number two cylinder (all 1000 H, J, K, L, M, N models) or number three cylinder (1000 P models onwards) carburetor should be used as the base setting; and the other three carburetors should be adjusted to be the same.

For detailed links to "HOW TO with pictures"...

I hope this clarifies for all.

Hi Naga_Thai

Does that mean this workshop manual (http://www.members.iinet.net.au/~cbr...ice_Manual.pdf ) is geared for only P models? because it categorically says that number 3 carb is the base carb?

sorry to be a pain but it just doesn't make sense, mine is an 87 which i believe is a "CBR 1000F MODEL "H", and i know for sure that when i turn the 2nd adjustment screw, it starts altering the no 2 gauge, if 2 is the base it shouldn't react to my adjustment? when i adjust the 3rd screw it alters no 4 gauge, so i have always balanced 2 to 3, 1 to 3 and 4 to 3 and have successfully balanced them all... anyways.. apologies for flogging this point to death..i just hate unanswered mysteries.
