Can I raise these bars?

Mate, lots of us have done something about this.
I put vfr750 bars on mine but the early vfr800 bars will fit as well (and would probably look a bit better). The later vfrs went to a larger diameter tube. The locating lugs don't line up and some guys grind them off. I left mine and it gains me a few mm more raise. I've never had a problem with the bars slipping either.
Another way is Genmar risers but the best way, one I plan to do soon, is to get fully adjustable bars. I think Sprock mentioned that he was going to put some on one of his bikes so it might be worth pm ing him if he doesn't drop in here.
I can't remember the brand but if you do a search with 'bar risers' you're sure to come across it. I posted some comparison pics of the vfr bars in there somewhere too.
The vfr mod gave me about 1" up and 1" back which has helped a lot but some of the fully adjustable ones can give you 4" higher I think. The great thing about those too is that if you feel like a boy racer one weekend you can drop 'em down again. The downside is that you'd probably need longer hoses etc.
Sing out if you can't find the info and I'll have a look.

I have a set of telefix profi bars on my bike which are adjustable up and down, forward and back. The pic shows them set at about their highest position (without having to swap out the throttle cables) and are about 4 inches higher than stock at the bar ends. At this height I sit straight up with no weight on my wrists. They're more expensive than the gen mars, but worth it. As for the gen mars, they simply consist of spacers that raise your bars about 3/4 inch. You can get the same rise by simply raising your bars up on the fork tubes by 3/4 inch. I did this when I first got my bike, with no problems, but, IMO, it didn't raise the comfort level much.

I had a set of Tomaselli bars on my 900 Yammie - just like Paco's bars you can adjust them everywhere.

Hey paco, what happened to your throttle side bar weight?
The cheap adjustable bars Sprock looked at turned out to be fairly nasty to go with the cheap price (about $70 for the set from memory)
I am still trying to make up my mind on which way to go with rising as well,
the genmar risers are about $130 a set del to Oz, $100+freight, vfr bars can be found on fleabay a bit cheaper, I did not really like the look of the vfr bars as much as the factory look of the genmars.

Have VFR 750 bars on one of mine and "a one off" unknown profi style on the other bike
I'm about to toss the VFR Bars !!!! for a set of DanMoto 3D adjustable bars shortly when I can find the time to do the work
the DanMoto bars will take some tinkering with the bar itself is longer than stock and
may have to be cut ..... we'll see and will also need to be modded to take end weights
Biggest issue in raising bars up is throttle and brake lines ! .... but if you are only
going up an inch or so .........y'll get by !
