Default buying 87 cane, anything to look for?

going to look to buy an 87 hurricane with 19,500 miles/k, pretty nice condition, 4 into 1 pipes, jetted, looks and runs good. anything to look or watch out for on this bike? and how will it stack up to my current bike(1995 cbr1000f, 9k)? all input would be great, asking price is$1,850

The usual things to watch out for on this particular model would be the cam chain and tensioner as well as the rectifier. They're great bikes though. My '87 has about 7500 kilometers on it. I just wish I had more time to ride it!

what do i listen or look for with the cam chain tensioner, does a streched chain effect timing? and is it chain or belt?

1 It's a cam chain and it does affect timing, albeit only slightly.
2 When COLD, listen for a rattle - mine is intermittent.
3 Starter clutch - must turn quickly. Failure there is an engine removal
4 Reg/rectifier- frustrating but fixable
5 Fairing plastics not easy to find.

bike has a small intermittent rattle at an idol, goes away immediatly when you hit the throttle
what kind of job is it to change the cct? do i have to split the base? easier way

Read previous posts on CC and CCT replacement - if you use a split link chain, you can do it in about 4 hours, otherwise you have an engine removal to look forward to !
DID and Takasago make good aftermarket chains 150 links is what you need.
