Guys... I don't get it at all.....

If you switch the valve to ON position, the fuel petckock still needs engine vacuum to let the fuel flow....

So no possibility for fuel to flood your engine... unless you mange to provide vacuum somehow...

and still.... there are needle valves to protect you against any petcock failure.... you haven't seen any stains under the fuel drain tubes, have you???

Not on altered MK1, if you remove the fuel pump they are a pure gravity feed. There is no vacuum line to open or close supply.

A small leak may not provide enough fuel to make that tell tale "puppy dog piddle" on the floor. It can just quietly fill an individual cylinder, that will then leak down past the rings into the crankcase, thereby topping up your oil level.

20 posts does not make you an expert on all things "Hurricane", just as 1600 doesn't make me one.

I think it does however, give me the ability to offer a "considered opinion"

bc30se,

What you are referring to is the needle and seat. The float level is controlled by the needle and seat. When the bike is tipped on the side stand, the floats may let to much fuel into the bowls. On some engines the needles stick open when the bike is tipped.

As for those vacuum controlled petcock, they can fail. If the rubber diaphragm gets old and cracks or simply doesn't seat well, it will let fuel run.

catworst's MK1 does not have a vacuum operated petcock, its manual.
