Hey all,
My (only)bro lives there, after the event we were unable to contact my bro via text. He was in the CBD at work at the time. We endured a six hour silence waiting to hear from him. He was seven floors up at the time and seen the cathedral fall. He battled his way out of the mess to get to his family, he has said to me, he has seen things people should not have to see...........ever!
His partner was at her mums house with bub, they got out without so much as a scratch but the house was demo'd, truely amazing. He, his partner & bub (and the inlaws) are all OK, thank god!!
We're so lucky to have have had such a good outcome whilst so many have lost so much and are still having endure more pain. Everyone knows someone that has been affected in some manner.
It is truely remarkable how our country has reacted and stepped up to deal with this disaster along with the massive assistance of many countries. We are glued to the screens watching how things are still unfolding and being dealt with. Christchurch might had a hard kickin' but by god they will definitely keep on tickin!
You would not wish this she-ite on your worst enemy!

I experienced it first hand being a local. Is surreal seeing all the damage, hard to imagine how it can all be rebuilt but much, much worse are the lives lost. So many tragic stories. Luckily my family ok but incredibly stressful trying to contact wife and kids who were at work, school and daycare at the time.
