My F2 did the same thing. Wire for the kill switch was frayed and grounding out the handlebars.

glad all turned out well

I had a 1985 chevy that had electronic jets in the carburetor. The red light with the word CHOKE came on and I could not figure it out. After I took it to the dealership I had a message on the answering machine, when returning home, to go back and pick it up. I paid $55 for them to replace a fuse. I never looked at the fuse because I had a light on, not off. I still don't understand how a lack of current can make a light go on.

Anyway, glad you found the problem without paying out to find something simple. Like the time I replace my alternator in my Toyota Supra and repeatedly forgot to connect the field wire. $125 is the dealership price to hook up a field wire.
