Default Alternative alternator whats possible

I know anything is possible with some engineering but has anyone thought about whether an alternator from another model or make with built in regulator/rectifier could be made to fit. Grafting the cbr shaft onto another alternator and sorting the mounting

Just asking to ask? Or do you have something in mind?

Default Whats possible

Its a bit like using different calipers by making a mounting bracket if you know what I mean (obviously a bit more difficult) Hypothetically why couldnt you use a gpz900r alternator (as my last project was using this bike ) which has a built in regulator etc. I have raised this as a debate as I have just started my project and like to digress from the norm. The things that raise questions are, 1, what sort of rpm does the cbr alternator turn at, 2 the mounting, 3 the cbr shaft from the alternator.

Hey:

I know on some Honda bikes a Kaw ZX7 alt is able to be grafted on but that is on the older CB F & CBX models. It may be a try, but with some clever maching or lucky trial and error most anything can be made to work, as you may well know. How many amps/watts do you want to support? The reason I ask is I have seen a few of these bikes hooked up to electric vest/seat cover/gloves/grips/camera/ usb devices & GPS and have no issues after a modern RET/REG upgrade to something BETTER than the OEM part. Just a thought. Good Luck and keep us posted, as I for one would consider doing this as well if I had the need.

The pre-1989 1000F models used an air-cooled alternator. 1989 models and later used an oil-cooled alternator. If that helps.
