is it bad to ride these bikes conservative..i.e cruise around 3.5 on the taco in 5/4 th humming along or do they fancy the higher revs noisy riding style..one last question..are these bikes capable of lifting up? how do i lift her? gently off course. #$lol
I just let it run while I put my hemet etc. on then take it a bit easy for a few minutes (I mean under about 5k). I don't think waming up for ages would do any harm, just a waste of fuel and riding time imo.

Cruising along at lower revs is fine, but all engines benefit from a good blast every now and then. My old man calls it "blowing out the cobwebs". In my experience though, the cops don't understand this to be a valid reason for speeding (I know because I tried it on one once).

These old girls are very front heavy and it takes a bit to get the front up. It's very hard on the forks when they come down and you'll probably blow the seals . Also it's a bit rough on the drivetrain to be dumping the clutch suddenly to lift the front.

Fast sweeping corners and brisk touring are this bikes world. It does both well so I'd leave the monos for the modern sport bike riders...Maybe I'm just an old fart though. I'm certainly not alone on that front around here.

I don't worry too much about warming/not warming, etc. I just get on and ride after it's warmed enough to run right, but I sometimes even ride a little bit with the choke still on.

On the gears... mine will sometimes pop out of second, but it's almost always on hard accel and if I remember to kick it hard it's fine.
Never really had issues with it not shifting, tho.

3rd to 4th with my girl,,,
then one day coming down the motorway i found out.
i'd just decreased rapidly and shifted down, went to push again and it was solid.
i got off at the next exit for a look, there's a shaft and sleve with the linkages to the pedal,,, solid. siezed.
its only a wee 10mm bolt holding it, so i loosened it,, and rode on a few mile at a time checking it,until i got home.
stripped it and had to beat the bush out with an old socket bar and hammer, lots of parts cleaner and check fit.
reassembled with a dose of white waterproof grease, and its been sweet since.
its getting fresh grease before my big trip, just to be sure its not going to be a problem.

Slight wear on the shifter drums in my opinion is a contributor to this ........imo
