jumping out of 2nd gear
A mates just bought a CBR 600 1993, with a problem, it jumps out of 2nd when you give it a bit. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this happening before, and if it is easy to fix. Riding conscious of the problem, it doesnt do it.
Any info on this would be great.
Cheers!!!

There are a couple of things that can cause this, worn shift forks, gear slots, bent selector, RS return spring, or worn cam, none that are going to real easy fix, but not completely hopeless either.
Honda gearboxes are usually pretty tough, but if they get abused or most likely been dropped on the left side (on the gear selector) then Bob's your Aunty, you have problems.
The fact that its only jumping out of 2nd gear is the good news, its a bigger transistional shift from 1st to 2nd (& from 2nd to 1st) than the rest of the gears, so I suspect a dodgy spring or bent/worn selector. The bad news is that you or your mate, or both of you, are going to have to pull the bugger apart to find out. Its not a real difficult task up to a point, but its fiddly & unless something is obviously broken or bent, it can be hard to pick up wots worn/stretched out of tolerences & causing your problem, so your going to need a manual for a start. Good luck
