Default 88 CBR1000f Engine swap

Hello all im a new user here. I bought a 1988 Cbr1000f a few days ago. I noticed that the motor had some noise. I was thinking it was the cam chain tensioner. After removing the valve cover i found the the left side of the intake cam cap was burnt looking. I removed the cap to find that at some point it ran without oil. So not knowing the condition of the rest of the motor would i do best to find a used one and change it out? If so what all years will fit that frame?
Thank you

Ohh, there's some nasty **** going on there.

My low mileage 87 engine would fit that, but I'm using it just at the moment. If I ever get over it tho' you'll be the first one I call.

Don't hold your breath waiting though, it may be a wee while.

The engines are all basically the same. I am putting a 95 in my 87. Just a few differences with carb insulaters and you can swap them out. I have spare cams and caps if you decide to go the other way.

You are responding to an old thread.
If you have an 88 you need the MK1 type engine or switch out the pules generator as they are different and it won't work.
