There was a monster mud wasp nest in the exhaust chamber so i had do disassemble the head. This pic shows the head and the valve spring compression tool. I am not sure how this job could be done without this tool. Name: 100_4558.jpg

I laid all the cams, valves, and springs out in order so I could clean everything and get it back together. Name: 100_4560.jpg

My next project is to clean the valves without wrecking them. I also need to get my hands on some 95 carbs. Anyone want to sell or trade for a set of 90’s, or a set of 87 cali’s? Frame is out being powder coated. The project is finally in the rebuilding stage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So if anyone has a set of 1995 1000f carbs they want to sell that would be great.

Keep up the good work mate! Sorry, can't help with your carbs but try posting in the 'parts for sale and wanted bit' and maybe on the main cbr board. There's a couple of guys there with 'birds who used to have cbrfs..never know your luck.

Oh wow, I'm doing a top end rebuild myself on the same bike 87 CA model CBR1000F. I sent the head out to be rebuilt and the machinist said the valves and seats were too worn to rebuild!

Anybody got a good head they can spare?

Good luck with that rebuild!

Rustyrobot how many miles did your motor have on it? I have a spare head but its the california head with the PAIR ports so i Doublt you want it. I am surprised the seats were worn beyond repair. I would think anything of that vintage may leave you in the same spot. I also have spare cams/valves/springs. Let me know if i can help.

Default Cylinder heads

I don't mind the emissions stuff that much, just more parts to put back together.

I had dropped the head off at a very reputable shop here in SF(Werkstat) for teardown and inspection by their machinist. I guess all this guy does is rebuild heads. I need to get them to send me the report, but i'm pretty sure she said it was springs out of spec, valves out of spec and seats out of spec.

I looked the head over myself, and it doesn't seem that bad. None of the seats look cracked or pitted, just REALLY carboned up. The exhaust valves too. At least one valve has carbon in the seating surface.

I feel like if the springs aren't too soft, i could clean it up and put it back together with new stem seals. I mean it has to be better than before i tore it apart?

I'm going to decarbonize the head and valves with solvent and green scrubbie and get my hands on a good set of calipers. I'll let you know if I want that head, but i'm betting i will. How much you want for the CA head and parts?

oh, the bike has 27k miles on the odometer. I hope it isn't 127k miles!

It was not treated terribly well during it's vintage, but I was able to grab it for $200 with a brand new set of tires.
