Default 1993 Value

Just stopped and looked at a CBR1000F that was parked in front of the sellers house. The bike is mint. The owner didn't come out, so I had a good "look see" on the bike. I can't find a scratch anywhere. Shows 11007 miles, called him and he is the orginal owner. Tires good, chain and sprockets good, Vance&Hines appears to be the only mod I could see. I am coming off of a CBRF4. Mostly because of comfort. Will I find this bike more confortable? Will I be bored with the power after the F4, or does it have more. I can't say I am looking for a canyon carver, we don't have them here. I am looking for a sporty, fast, inline 4 bike. The condition of this bike appears to be faultless. The seller says he needs $4000, is it worth that much, even in the excellentcondition it is in? That is what I sold my '99 F4 for and it was in the same condition.

You can pick up a 98 VFR for $4000 in similar condition. He doesn't really want to sell it. $3000 is more reasonable on that. KBB says $3185 at a dealer. Keep looking.

Oh yeah, and as far as riding position, it will be more upright than your CBR600 for sure. It will also have more power but not a ton more. The CBR600 has downdraft carburetors and is a LOT lighter than the 1000F. The 1000F is a much better long distance ride and can still eat up the twisties like crackers. As far a power vs. weight, you may not see a lot of difference 0-60, but the 1000F is geared better. You are not running around 5500RPM at 60MPH on the 1000. It is more like 4000-4500. The main difference, as far as I am concerned, is the weight of the bike. The 1000 is a pig compared to the 600. I have owned a 1987 CBR600F1 and I still own the 1988 CBR1000F. I got rid of the 600 because it was uncomfortable. But DAMN it was fun. It was a lot more flickable and you didn't feel like you were fighting it up and down in the corners as much.

Just my opinion anyways, and again $4000 is insane. Unless it has a turbo or NOS system already installed. Maybe the frame is cast in gold?

I've neverridden a F4, so I can't tell you which bike offers more performance or comfort. The 1000F offers better ergonomics than most, when talking sport bikes. If straight line acceleration is your cup of tea, you won't be dissapointed or "bored" on the 1000F. The engine is rated at 132 HP in stock form and several magazine testers reported high 10 second 1/4 mile times back in the day. As for the price, $4,000 is pretty high. If you are patient, you should find something in the $3,000 range that is in exellent condition.

Coincidentally, I'm in southeast Michigan and just recently decided to sell my 1990 1000F. It only has 12K miles on it, is very close to mint and I'm asking $3,300. The reason I'm selling it is that I want to build a turbo bike and, unfortunately, no one sells a kit for the 1000F. My plan is to sell the CBR and buy a Kawasaki ZRX1200R, which several companies offer turbo kits for.

If you get the ZRX, check out the ZRX owners assn. board at http://zrxoa.org/ They are a good group with a wealth of information, and I miss those guys. I had an '02 Red Rex that was stolen in '03. My '95 CBR is my cheap replacement bike for my ZRX, since I took a major bath with the theft and I didn't want to do that again.

Dave K,
The 1KF may be just what you are looking for. It is a sport/touring maching, the CBRF4 is only sport. It will be heavier than what you are use to but will give you a better ride. It was designed to go the long distances but still get her down on the pegs.

pacojoseph,
Have you ridden a ZRX1200? I have, they are wheelie machines. I don't think you would get the benefits of a turbo.

An extended swingarm and aftermarket sprockets will definately be in order if the turbo ZRX projectcomes to fruition.
