yep.Draws too much power. After some extended highway riding watch out for the smell of hot or burning rubber in the area aroundyour right knee. Thats where the frying begins. [:-]hehehe
Hmmm, isn't the headlight fues 20A? 20A * 12v = 240W

and since the bulbs are 55/65(?ish)...... 55 * 2 = 110W or 65 * 2 = 130W

OR did I read my head light fuse wrong?

EDIT: Upon further review, BENSBEN, what year is yours? US or UK. seems there is some differences between the years as far as headlight fuses go.

Thanks! I really want to get to the bottom of this.

European CBR 1000F's have a standard H4 fitting,
but i have a Californian import, with the same, expensive PX43T fitting.
I can order these bulbs over here (i have a 'special' adress for this),
but these are indeed ridiculous expensive >>> 30 dollar for 1 bulb.Times 2 !!
(standard H4 costs me 8 dollar)
So i'm looking for a european headlight, as the mounting are the same.

I noticed soon after I installed the silvania H4 silver light bulbs that my bikes electrical system started drawing too much power. I ride on the highway most of the time to and from work so I didn't worry about it until my volyage regulator died again. It even burned the connector pins and melted the plastic connector at the fuse. I will make repairs and put the bike back to normal or buy a replacment wire harness on ebay and upgrade the gauge wiring for the headlight circuit. Too much power for the wiring causing high current draws. Too bad because they were so bright and clean...

There is a guy in Canada that makes adapters for the American bike so you can fit standard car type headlight bulbs - cost is around $9 for two.
Check www.e-Bay.com or e-bay.canada[
I fitted them to my California and have had no problems since.

So, what's the story? Std. auto H4's will burn up the wiring in my '93 1000F? Or is someone having problems that just coinside with the use of std. H4 bulbs?
I bought the ebay adapters but have'nt put new bulbs in yet. Do I dare?

Stick to 60/55W bulbs and you'll be fine !
I've had mine in for over 3 years and no wiring problems.

You don't need any conversion kit to run H4's in your bike. I just break the two bottom tabs off and stick -em in there. I've been doing it for years on several bikes with no problems. The current bulbs in there are Silverstar Ultras, and I've had no issues in the 15k miles or so they've been in there. I also have (2) 50w driving lights and heated grips.

My only issue is that I can't run all of that on together...not enough juice to keep the battery charged.

My regulator (just replaced it last year) burned up and took out the plug on the connector and over to the fuse. I had accomplished this H4 silverlight upgrade about 3 months ago. The problem is the gauge wiring is wrong to run these lights. I need to upgrade the headlight wiring all the way back to the main power supply. This should drop the resistance on the system. I might just put my old lights back I'n. I'm selling my 93 CBR 1000F soon anyway.

I have been using 60/55W for years with no problems. What wattage are you using?
