Its actually the sprocket tooth count that determines the timing of the cam.
The cam turns 1/2 the RPM of the crank, hence the sprocket on the cam has exactly twice the teeth of the sprocket of the crank. The chain length will not effect the cam timing anymore than adjusting your drive chain and ending up with a different final drive ratio.
You should adjust the chain to fit.
