I have an 98 900rr, my friend just took h4 bulbs and cut two prongs off the mounting ring and they fit into my 98 headlights. Same as your 99 headlights.
Ebay also sells the h4 ring to adapt h4 bulbs into your bike for a proper fit. Hope this could be of some help.

Don't even need to do anything to the headlight housing or buy the adaptor ring. All you do is take a standard H4 bulb of any type, take a "duckbill" or flat nose pliers and bend the two bottom tabs on the bulb back towards the plug prongs! Don't need to cut them off, they don't harm anything anyways. The reason you can do this is they are only there for "rotational" straightness. So the bulbs will not rotate in the housing. If you bent the two bottom ones, the top one will still be there. And it is easy as pie!!! Unless you can't cook??!!
