Question 97 F3 to 02 F4i gauge swap problems!

Hey I bought the gauges of a 2002 F4i and followed an online guide of the wire matching for the F3 to F4i swap and I turned the bike on and only the Neutral light comes on and the digital part flickers a bit. I routed the power straight to the battery. But there is something missing here. Any ideas ?? This gauge was 350$ and I am really stressing out about it. Any ideas what it could be, would be very much appreciated !!

wow you paid $350 for F4i gauges? they can be had for much cheaper than that.. but its too late for that now...

I made this post to collect informtion on the F4i gauge swap.. I ended up not doing it to my F4 but it was a great learning experience.. others have made it work.

I found the problem ! The power wire inside the unit is loose so I am taking it apart today and seing what the deal is in there . When I wiggled it in frustration yesterday my gauges lit up and so did my day ! Wow what a relief !!!

PS. I got these gauges on Ebay in desperation. brand new ones are like 800 $ and I couldnt find any for like 2 months. I bought them from Alabama and shipped them out to BC Canada and shipping and handling was 80$ alone ...

Glad you got it figured out. The F4I gauges are so much better then the F3 gauges.Did you change your engine temp sending unit? You have two options; either use a F4I temp unit which requires you to rethread the hole or use a 900rr temp unit. I think I might make a how page to help people with this mod.

Not thread jacking in anyway, but I am doing this swap on my f4 and still am not sure how to search for this temp sensor...I am looking for the 900rr one but just am unsure of these eBay ads and If that is really the only part I need....

If you are not sure about what the part is then use a online parts store to make sure you get the right part. The engine temp sending unit goes into the engine head not the sensor on the radiator. So look at the OEM image and get the water coolant temp senor that goes into the engine.
