what is the biggest motor you can mount on a f2 frame
I'm SERIOUSLY considering swapping a 900 into my F2/3 and just selling my f3 motor. Turbo the **** out of that 900 motor. How much can the stock internals take?? I'm sure i'd do low comp pistons at the minimum tho...
your stock internals would be ripped by a larger size turbo my buddy has a 900 motor in his f3 and its a very very fast bike. If you do the swap take some pics and do a write up on it this is a very cool swap im going to do it withen the next few years.
i am almost done with my swapping a 94 900RR into my 94 F2- its not that hard you just have to keep putting the motor in and taking it out to make adjustments alot.. and weld a new rear lower mount in and mod the airbox.. i didnt notch my frame though i just shaved the head off the acorn nut that hits on the right side. but i am taking a TON of pics so i will get a full write up in the DIY section when i am done and let you guys know on here... i also have a picture of every single thing that i am taking off- in case there are any questions where something goes when someone else does it and when i put mine back together.
You are bracing the frame to take the extra horsepower RIGHT?
See people don't seem to understand that the manufacturers shave every bit of weight they can on sportbikes. This means that they frames and swingarms are only made as strong as needed for the power they intend to acheive. If you are lucky, then what you do will still keep you in the "safety margin" that the manufacturer builds in. If you aren't then you crack a frame and C-ya.
A F2/3/4/4I is not a Hypersport that was built with the understanding that people were going to double the power output. (see Hayabusa, ZX12R, CBR1100XX, ZX14R)

yes i have braced the frame where most of the torque is going to have a impact and i doubled up the side, rear and front motor mounts also. the frame on the f2 is steel and not aluminum or anything so that helps alot too.as far as the swingarm i am looking for a place to get it reinforced and stretched 6"-- i found one place but i am shopping around..
i have been researching this for about 2 months and have talked to 5 other people who have done this change without changing anything on the frame and one guy did his in 95 and it still has not cracked or anything- but on the flip side there was one guy that heavily notched his frame to fit the motor and after about 2 years of wheelies cracked the frame..
turboinferno83 that was classic!!! glad that someone said it so i didnt have to[sm=groupwave.gif]!!!!!!

oh yeah and if you think that is crazy wait untill you see the pics of my 1973 arctic cat 340 snowmobile with my 600 F2 engine in it!!!!! that is in the works too and should be done by next week[sm=gears.gif]
i have had a 900 engine in my f2 since 1996. first a 96 motor, now a 98 and i have had absolutely no problems with the frame cracking. i dynoed the 96 motor at 129hp. i also did no cutting on the frame rails, it is not necessary. don't let blackdog or anyone else scare you away from this conversion. it is a blast when u pull up next to an r1 on a little old outdated f2 and he can't shake you.

rsp919...did you take any pictures when mounting the 900rr motor to f2 ?
im just wondering how did it fit without no cutting on the frame rails...

i did the same swap and the motor slides right into the F2 frame you dont need to cut anything just put the motor in from the bottom and it all mounts up. the only thing that you have to cut is the rear upper motor mount but other than that no cutting required...
