Broken motor mount on 954
just bought a beautiful red 02 954. Took the lower cowl off to change the oil and noticed that a fairly large engine mount is snapped off. Have no idea wher the other piece is. Has anyone else experienced this? How does this happen even if the bike has never ben dropped?? soooo painful to see this on something u just bought. Ill post pictures up on my phone right now grieving over the bike.
Also on the motor mount near the front of the motor, it looks like there was once a spacer of some sort on the bolt? Anyone think this looks wierd??? The bolt on the other side of the motor has a different head and definately has some sort of a spacer.

Where did you buy the bike from?
Was it a private party sale?
I would definately be calling them back, or emailing them and keep track of all emails. That is something I would be taking to court. Demand your money back. Of course, it won't do much good as ther person knew full well what they were selling. If you can prove they knew of the situation, you can take them to court and get your money back. It may be hard to prove, but may not be as hard as you think. Small claims court you only have to prove it to the judge and they can decide if the person knew or not. especially call around to dealerships and have them check the vin. They may have seen the bike and have records of it. If they show he brought it in for an estimate, yet sold it to you. You have a good case.
The reason I say this is that engine is basically useless now. You can try to get someone to weld it up and fix the hole, but I would go the route of trying to get your money back as soon as possible. As soon as you try to fix it, your stuck with it. You would probably be better off buying a used engine, then selling your engine as kart kit. You may be able to come close to even if you play it right.
Yes, there is suppose to be a spacer on the one side. I don't know if the bike was ever dropped, but the engine was probably removed for some reason or other. Also, the previous owner could have had frame sliders on those locations and could have dropped the bike, broke the engine mount and then just sold it the way it was. Or, he took the sliders off and lost one of the spacers, then just bolted it back up. The engine could have twisted from torque and snapped off the ear of the opposite side.
The one thing that is absolutely for certain is this. The previous owner absolutely knew about the problem. Otherwise, the spacer wouldn't be missing from the one end.
