Default Help With Slip on / FE Install - How To

Hey guys - I bought a project that was laid down and i'm getting ready for all new fairings and a RS5 Slip-on and FE kit.

so today i took the tail off and took that bullsh*t *** rear fender off and i got kinda confused when i tried taking that heat shield off - i have a few questions...first - do i need to take that whole under tail off? as in, take the battery and all those electronics out? cause i starting take out bolts and it seemed in there pretty good. and also should i just cut that heat shield out and line the undertail with a special heat shield adhesive?

second - whats the deal with the slip ons? my whole tail pipe seems to be welded together with no flange or seperations of anwhere in reasonable site. I am a certified welder so i can get crafty if needed but i'd like it to be as neat as possible.

thanks again

The heat shield actually comes off pretty easy....it's two parts, the upper for the muffler and the lower for the midpipe. You do not have to remove the battery tray to get it off.

As far as the heat issue: I have the stock exhaust, and have had no problems with the heat shield completely removed. Also, if your yoshi is carbon fiber, you will not have to worry about heat at all. Either way, i haven't seen anyone have any issues with the shield removed.

The stock exhaust and mid-pipe are one unit. Behind the right footpeg, you will see the clamp where the mid-pipe attaches to the rest of the exhaust system. The yosh (and any good slip on, for that matter) will come with 2 pieces---the "can" and a new mid-pipe. Very easy and straightforward to install. The can "slips-on" the new mid-pipe, and the new mid-pipe simply attaches in the same way the stock one came off.

Hope this helps! Congrats and good luck!!!
