RE: first mod is exhaust
There are so many different slipons out there and everyone who has bought one will be biased to what they have. The best way to pick the one you like is to actually hear it in person...listining online will not justify its true sound...Go to some bike nights....group rides...malls....or dealerships.....or if your out and about and you see someone with a pipe you havent heard ask them to hear it im sure there would be no problems. Then pick the baddest one you hear

RE: first mod is exhaust
i wouldnt use sound as my first basis for a slip one
go with performance numbers instead
weight reduction
hp increase etc
for example sato, arata, akro, hamaguchi, et al... in the titanium version can save almost 10 lbs of weight
where the weight savings of a yosh slip can be 3-5lbs
(taken from 600rr.net)
it just so happens that the above are also proven to give the highest hp gains
if you want sound get a vtwin

RE: first mod is exhaust
well it depends really.
street or track
a full system in general gives more hp up high which would make it a good for the track since especially on a 600 where you would have to keep the rpms way up/
a slip in general makes better hp in the midrange where the normal street rider will need it
sato is a good example on this. the full sato makes a ton of power on the top end but the slip on kills the full in the midrange gains.
also consider that sato/arata slip ons have been shown to make more power than some full systems like the yosh full.
granted they are also twice as much
